WHO WE ARE

Our community of faith at SullivanFirst United Methodist Church is a place where people are encouraged to hear God's voice, love one another, show compassion to others, and follow Jesus more closely than ever before.  We desire to pour forth God's love in every direction, so our local and global community can be transformed.  Specifically, we want to help the lost ones be found, the children be loved, the broken be healed, the races be reconciled, and the poor be lifted up.

Our Core Values

  • God's Heart:  For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son for us (John 3: 16).  Because spiritual explorers matter to God, they matter to us.
  • Prayer:  By teaching and example, Jesus showed how personal prayer is the key to spiritual and social renewal (Luke 5: 16).
  • Community: Jesus said, "Where two or three are gathered in my name, I will be there also" (Matthew 18: 20).  That's why life-change happens best in a small group.
  • Authenticity: God lives in reality and meets us in our brokenness.  To meet God, we must be real about our lives and our relationships with God, others and ourselves (Mark 10: 51).
  • Servanthood:  Jesus came not to be served, but to serve (Mark 10: 45).  In His body, every member of Christ is a minister of Christ.
  • Compassion:  The Church exists for those who are not a part of it.  We are the hands and feet of Jesus to bring healing, justice, and hope to those in need (Matthew 25: 31 - 46).
  • Giving: The happiest people in life are givers.  Jesus understood that we really are more blessed when we give than when we receive (Acts 20: 35).

WHAT WE DO

Our Mission
SullivanFirst exists to help people become full-devoted followers of Jesus.
A fully-devoted follower is:
  • An avid worshiper of God in public & private
  • A Spirit-gifted servant who meets specific human needs
  • A credible-Christian witness in the eyes of nameable pre-Christians
  • A loyal friend who is Spiritually-connected with other believers
  • A generous giver of resources to God's mission locally & around the world

Our Strategy

We seek to engage persons of every generation who are on a spiritual journey.  In a culture defined by entertainment and materialism, more and more people are seeking something beyond themselves.  When we engage in a life rhythm in the following three ways...lives are transformed!

  • Going where Jesus goes
  • Doing what Jesus does
  • Being who Jesus is

WHAT WE BELIEVE

What We Hold As True

About God

There is one God eternally existent in three persons--Father, Son, & Holy Spirit

(2 Corinthians 13: 14).

About Jesus

Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God who died for our sins and rose from the dead.

(I Corinthians 15: 1 - 8)

About the Bible

The Bible is the inspired Word of God, a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path,

and contains all things necessary for salvation.

(Psalm119: 105; 2Timothy 3: 16)

About Sin

Every person has sacred worth as a creation of God, but all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

(Genesis 1: 27; Romans 3: 23)

About Salvation

All persons experience a saving relationship with God as we turn away from sin, confess our faith in Jesus Christ, and trust in His all-sufficient work on the cross.

(Romans 6: 23 & 10: 9; John 14: 6)

Forgiveness of sins, wholeness, and the promise of eternal life are available to all

who trust Jesus Christ as their Forgiver and Leader

(Matthew 9: 5 - 7; John 3: 16 - 17 & 5: 24)

About Baptism and Communion

Baptism and communion are the two channels of God's grace instituted by Jesus Christ and celebrated as sacraments in the Church.

(Matthew 26: 26 - 29 & 28: 18 - 19; Acts 2: 38)

About the Church

The Church is the Body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and it exists to lead spiritually adrift people to faith, edify believers, and be the hands and feet of Jesus in this world.

(I Corinthians 12: 12 - 31; Acts 2: 42 - 46; Ephesians 4: 1 -16)

About Jesus' Return to Earth

Jesus Christ will one day return to earth, judge the world in righteousness, and usher in the New Heaven and the New Earth where He will reign forever as King of kings and Lord of lords.

(I Thessalonians 4: 13 - 18; Revelation 19: 11 - 16, 20: 11 - 15, & 21: 1 - 22: 17)
